3. Fireboy DML’s album brings Lagbaja back from retirement

Thirdly, Fireboy DML’s much-anticipated fourth studio album, Adedamola, released on August 29, 2024, has become a subject of intense discussion. This is primarily because of the participation of the iconic Nigerian Afrobeat legend, Lagbaja. The collaboration marked Lagbaja’s return from retirement after years of absence. Also, its result is a soulful blend of saxophones, violins, and traditional drums that evokes nostalgia.

In particular, the song Back n Forth stands out for its African rhythms and Fireboy DML’s powerful, emotional lyrics. Lagbaja’s signature bata drums and omele added an unmistakable African essence. Also, his saxophone entrance in the track stirred deep feelings of pride among listeners. Fans were eager to hear Lagbaja, who last performed at the AMVCA in 2022, back in action, delivering verses reminiscent of his classic hits like Nothing for You.

Subsequently, in an Apple Music interview, Fireboy DML revealed that even in the studio session, Lagbaja maintained his mysterious persona by never removing his mask, much to Fireboy’s amazement. The collaboration is considered one of Fireboy’s most successful endeavours, showcasing his ability to mix nostalgia with contemporary sounds.

Set to be released as a tribute to his late mother, who passed away in 2023, the album has been in the making for nearly two years. The singer, who has already released hits like More Love, Less Ego, is building expectations for his fanbase once again.

On September 2, 2024, Wizkid posted cryptic hints on his social media. He suggested the album, or at least a single, might drop on October 1, 2024—Nigeria’s Independence Day. The message, which read, “On the day of independence, the truth shall set us free RRR,” has fueled speculation.

6. Buju Banton’s critique of Afrobeats sparks response from Tems

However, Nigerian Afrobeats star Tems responded thoughtfully during an interview on the Shopping The Sneakers podcast. She explained that Afrobeats, especially in Nigeria, is primarily about creating a “vibe” and providing an escape for its listeners. This contrasts with the socio-political messaging often found in reggae and dancehall. Tems’ nuanced answer sparked a wider conversation about the cultural significance and evolution of both genres.

Furthermore, Nigerian superstar Rema shocked the world with his latest album HEIS. This took bold experimental turns in terms of sound and style. This solidifies his role as a global brand ambassador for African music and culture.

After years of on-and-off performances and public feuds, Paul Okoye officially confirmed the final dissolution of P-Square, one of Nigeria’s most iconic music duos. The Afrobeats superstar doesn't completely disagree with comparing his album to Ye's.

Nigerian heavyweight singer and performer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has responded to claims of several who drew comparisons between his sophomore album 'HEIS' and American rap icon Kanye West's sixth album 'Yeezus'.

After releasing a debut album heavily dominated by Afro-fusion sound, titled 'Rave & Roses,' the 24-year-old followed with a sophomore album that is a pallet of different explorative genres of music, creating a fusion with the existing Afrobeats sound, thereby birthing a new style of Afrobeats many have categorised as the future of the genre as a whole in the coming days, weeks, or years.

Due to how experimental the project was, there have been comparisons with Kanye's 'Yeezus', which was released 11 years ago and was a very experimental album that shaped another sound and phase for hip-hop.

Speaking with American media house Complex, Rema agreed with the comparison, tagging it as a fair comparison. He went on to state that although he did experiment on the album, he kept it raw and very original, especially to his African roots. Rema also mentioned that a lot of people in his camp, including his label, were sceptical about the experiment, but he appreciated the fact that they still trusted him.

Nigerian megastar Davido is making headlines after extending an invitation to Kanye West, following West's public denouncement of his former collaborator, Adidas.

On Monday, Kanye West took to social media, accusing the sportswear giant of releasing unauthorized Yeezy designs and urging fans to boycott the brand. Davido, a brand ambassador for Puma, a major competitor of Adidas, saw an opportunity amid the controversy. He commented on West's post, writing, "Come to @puma YE,".

This public invitation has sparked speculation about a potential collaboration between the two musical powerhouses. It's no secret that Kanye West has been vocal about his desire for greater creative control over his Yeezy brand, and Puma is known for its collaborative approach with artists.

Whether this is a genuine olive branch from Davido or a calculated marketing move, it has undoubtedly generated substantial buzz. It remains to be seen if West will entertain the offer. Still, one thing's for sure: the drama surrounding Kanye and Adidas has taken an unexpected turn, with a potential new chapter unfolding in sneakers and celebrity partnerships.

Davido has stood strong in his ability to notice business opportunities and capitalize immediately. His recent collaboration with the audiovisual platform Chatter is also a testament to his marketing abilities.

The rapper said; "This is the mother of my children, and I apologise for any stress that I have caused in my frustration because God caused me to be stronger but also ain't nobody going to be causing no stress either cause I need this person to be less stressed and a best sound mind and as calm as possible to be able to raise those children."

The father of four also explained the reasons behind his Kim-centred outbursts, saying that he'd been speaking from a place of hurt from the new dynamic of having to co-parent as a new divorcee who had less access to his children, North, Saint, Chicago and Saint.

DJ Khaled, Kanye West & Eminem - Use This Gospel Remix Lyrics

Intro: Kanye West
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh-uh
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh, uh
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh-uh
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh, uh

Chorus: Kanye West
Use this gospel for protection
It's a hard road to Heaven
We call on Your blessings
In the Father, we put our faith
King of the Kingdom
Our demons are trembling
Holy angels defending
In the Father, we put our faith

Verse: Eminem
I'm holding on (Yeah) but I don't know if I can take it much longer
Today's the day that I put all of my trust and faith in You, Father
Please let this hate make me stronger
'Fore they turn on me like a zombie
It's like I'm being strangled unconscious (Yeah)
When temptation is almost like Satan is making you tryna
Take you away from your daughters
Dangling a bunch of painkillers on ya
Waving 'em in your face and then watch 'em coming extra strength
And that's why they make 'em in rectangular objects
'Cause that's the shape of a coffin
Though, it ain't medication this time
But the devil's egging me on
And I ain't gonna let 'em break me 'cause I'm a soldier
You can bank on that promise like the Chamber of Commerce
So my savior, I call on
To rescue me from these depths of despair
So these demons better step like a stair
Because He is my shepherd
I'm armed with Jesus, my weapon is prayer
Soon as I squeeze it, I'm blessed like sneezes
Call me Yeezus, I'm F'd in the head, maybe I'm bonkers
Regardless, never claimed to be flawless
Long as the mistakes I've acknowledged
Y'all wish I would say something positive
Well, okay, then I'm positive
They'd rather trade weather with Mayweather
'Cause they would fare way better with them odds
Than they would exchanging some bars
Or trading any bars with Shady and probably is painfully obvious
To compare Godliness to an atheist
But I got them audiences raving (Woo) in amidst my squabbles
I got some awesome inspiration to drop 'em, off 'em
Pen and paper, I'm knocking 'em off
Woke up on stage at a concert
Whole place looking like a mosh pit
Bible at my side like a rifle with a God-given gift
Every single day I thank God for
That's why I pay so much homage
Praises to Jesus, I'll always

Chorus: Kanye West
Use this gospel for protection
It's a hard road to Heaven
We call on Your blessings
In the Father, we put our faith
King of the Kingdom
Our demons are trembling
Holy angels defending
In the Father, we put our faith

Outro
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh-uh
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh, uh
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh-uh
Uh-uh-uh, uh-uh, uh
Blessings from the altar got me feeling like I'm walking on water

Kanye West - Nah Nah Nah Lyrics

Intro
Incoming

Chorus
Boy, we wasn't never no joke, nah, nah, nah
All summer, murder he wrote, nah, nah, nah
Who they talking 'bout? Nah, nah, nah
Doing everything they didn't allow, nah, nah
Overthrow, send the drones in
All the maneuvers, feeling closed in
I don't need to strike back, I let God fight my battles
Ain't strapped with a TEC, laid it down, now where they at?

Verse 1
Next time you text, can it wait?
You are talking to a presidential candidate
I know you think Obi-Wan getting tired now
Don't jump, Anakin, I got the higher ground
I'ma hit the moonwalk like I seen Tito
Man... like the Prеsident just got vetoed (Woo)
Got to sign off for thе veto, ayy
I don't need to sign a release, I'm a freed old man
This is a video game, this is a simulation, man
How do you listen to lame? They the imitation, man
Take an idea, live it, take a idea, did it
Take an idea with it, just look how we get it
Just look how we did it, can't tell me we ain't did it
Can't tell me we ain't lived it, can't tell me we ain't lived it
Just look how we get it, cartoons ain't timeless
Cop cars ain't mind us, one call ain't wireless

Chorus
Boy, we wasn't never no joke, nah, nah, nah
All summer, murder he wrote, nah, nah, nah
Who they talking 'bout? Nah, nah, nah
Doing everything they didn't allow, nah, nah
Overthrow, send the drones in
All the maneuvers, feeling closed in
I don't need to strike back, I let God fight my battles
Ain't strapped with a TEC, laid it down, now where they at?

Bridge
If I put myself in harm's way to get my own masters
They'll put thyself in harm's way to stay the master
They'll put thyself in harm's way 'cause they ain't asking
They'll put thyself in harm's way, the slaves are massive

Verse 2
Do you want me to get specific?
Do you want me to name numbers?
Do you want me to name summers?
All the stars came from us
All the styles came from us
All the talent came from us
All the shoes came from us
But the news ain't on us
All the news ain't honest
All the news ain't honest
They wanna ignore me, rewrite the story
Take all the top spots, in every category
Back in fashion with them boys, can't ig-can't ignore me

Chorus
Boy, we wasn't never no joke, nah, nah, nah
All summer, murder he wrote, nah, nah, nah
Who they talking 'bout? Nah, nah, nah
Doin' everything they didn't allow, nah, nah
Overthrow, send the drones in
All the maneuvers, feeling closed in
I don't need to strike back, I let God fight my battles
Ain't strapped with a TEC, laid it down, now where they at?

JAY-Z, Kanye West & Rihanna - Run This Town Lyrics

Intro: Rihanna & Jay Z
Feel it coming in the air (Yeah)
Hear the screams from everywhere (Yeah)
I'm addicted to the thrill (I'm ready)
It's a dangerous love affair (What's up? Come on)
Can't be scared when it goes down
Got a problem, tell me now (What's up?)
Only thing that's on my mind (What's up?)
Is who's gon' run this town tonight (Ah, what's up?)
Is who's gon' run this town tonight (Yeah, what's up? Yeah)
We gon' run this town

Verse 1: Jay Z
We are, yeah, I said it: we are
This is Roc Nation, pledge your allegiance
Get your fatigues on, all black everything
Black cards, black cars, all black everything
And our girls are blackbirds riding with they Dillingers
I get more in depth if you boys really real enough
This is la Familia, I'll explain later
But for now, let me get back to this paper
I'm a couple bands down and I'm trying to get back
I gave Doug a grip and lost a flip for five stacks
Yeah, I'm talking 5 comma, 6 zeros, dot zero, here Doug
Back to running circles round niggas, now we squared up
Hold up

Chorus: Rihanna & Jay Z
Life's a game, but it's not fair (Yeah)
I break the rules, so I don't care (Uh-huh)
So I keep doing my own thang
Walking tall against the rain (What's up?)
Victory's within the mile
Almost there, don't give up now (What's up?)
Only thing that's on my mind (What's up?)
Is who's gon' run this town tonight (Uh, yeah)
Hey, hey, hey, hey (What's up?)
Who's gon' run this town tonight?

Verse 2: Jay Z
We are, yeah, I said it: we are
You can call me Caesar, in a dark Caesar
Please follow the leader, so Eric B we are
Microphone fiend, this the return of the god
Peace, God, ah ah, it ain't no nobody fresher
I'm in Maison, ah, Martin Margiela
On the table, screaming, "Fuck the other side! They're jealous!"
We got a banquette full of broads, they got a table full of fellas
Yeah, and they ain't spending no cake
They should throw their hand in 'cause they ain't got no spades
Yeah, my whole team got dough
So my banquette is looking like Millionaires' Row

Chorus: Rihanna
Life's a game, but it's not fair
I break the rules, so I don't care
So I keep doing my own thang
Walking tall against the rain
Victory's within the mile
Almost there, don’t give up now
Only thing that's on my mind
Is who's gon' run this town tonight
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Who's gon' run this town tonight?

Verse 3: Kanye West
It's crazy how you can go from being Joe Blow
To everybody on your dick; no homo
I bought my whole family whips; no Volvos
Next time I’m in church: please, no photos
Police escorts, everybody passports
This the life that everybody ask for
This the fast life, we are on a crash course
What you think I rap for, to push a fucking Rav 4?
But I know that if I stay stunting
All these girls only gon' want one thing
I can spend my whole life Good Will Hunting
Only good gon' come is this good when I'm cumming
She got a ass that'll swallow up a G-string
And up top, ungh, two bee stings
And I'm beasting off the Riesling
And my nigga just made it out the precinct
We give a damn about the drama that your dude bring
I'm just tryin' to change the color on your mood ring
Reebok, baby, you need to try some new things
Have you ever had shoes without shoe strings?
"What's that, Ye?" "Baby, these heels"
"Is that a May— what?!" "Baby, these wheels"
You tripping when you ain't sipping, have a refill
You feeling like you running, huh? Now you know how we feel (What’s up?)

Outro: Jay Z & Rihanna
Hey, hey (Yeah, yeah)
Hey, hey (What’s up?)
Hey, hey
Hey, we gon' run this town tonight
What’s up?
