Emma Hayes has led the US Women's National Team (USWNT) to a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics following an impressive victory over Brazil.

The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) claimed the women’s Olympic football title at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, defeating Brazil 1-0 at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, August 10.

Emma Hayes solidified her reputation as one of the top coaches in women’s football by guiding the United States to Olympic gold in her debut tournament as head coach.

Hayes, who took the job less than three months after leaving Chelsea, has revitalized the team and led them to Olympic glory during a period of transition. Mallory Swanson scored the decisive goal, securing the Americans' fifth gold medal, and marking Hayes' first.

Hayes had always dreamed of leading the US women’s team to Olympic victory, and she successfully turned that dream into reality.

With iconic forward Megan Rapinoe and Hollywood star Tom Cruise watching from the stands, the USWNT overcame early pressure from Brazil, including a disallowed goal by Ludmila for offside. The Americans eventually grew into the match, which was a thrilling, end-to-end encounter.

Letsile Tebogo wrote his name into the history books at the Paris 2024 Olympic games as he became the first person from Botswana to win Gold.

The 21-year-old achieved this feat on Thursday, August 8, 2024, making history against all odds among some of the best athletes on the track to become the fifth fastest man in the 200 meters. Letsile Tebogo, who won bronze at the worlds last year and set a national record of 9.86 when finishing sixth in the Paris 100m final.

The stage is set, the stakes are high, and the world's fastest teams are ready to put it all on the line at the Olympic Men’s 4x100-meter relay final.

The race promises to put everyone on the edge of their seats as eight nations converge on the track for a battle of speed, skill, and synchronization. With gold medals, national pride, and bragging rights hanging in the balance, the likes of the United States, Great Britain, and Japan will face off in a thrilling showdown.

A major surprise in the 4x100-meter men's relay is the absence of the Jamaican team, which will not be in the finals for the first time in 20 years. The final will go down at the Stade de France on Friday, August 9, 2024.

The Jamaican squad, featuring 100-meter silver medalist Kishane Thompson, failed in both the second and third baton handovers, losing the momentum needed to qualify. They only managed to finish fourth in their heat, which was not enough to qualify for the final.

This makes Team USA the huge favorite for the gold medal. They won their heat and have qualified as the fastest team, finishing almost half a second ahead of everyone else. Noah Lyles, who runs in the 200-meter final later in the day, was rested for the heats and will almost certainly come into the squad for the final.

The US will also be looking to break a jinx of winning a medal in the relay for the first time in 20 years. They won a medal in this event when they took silver in Athens back in 2004.

Who are the countries in the final of the Men’s 4x100-metre?

USA, Great Britain, South Africa, Japan, Italy, China, France, Canada

Nigeria's sprinter, Favour Ofili has reacted to her disappointing outing at the Paris 2024 Olympics 200-meter final race which saw her finished in sixth place in what had been described as the most competitive finals in the history of the games.

Favour Ofili came into the final race of the Olympics with hope from alot of Nigerians lying on her shoulders following her impressive run in the heat and also in the semi-finals where she came in second place. The 21-year-old posted her official X account some minutes after the race to express her disappointment of not winning a medal at the 200-meter but was able to maintain a level of positivity.

She said,

"Gods will not mine. It's been a hard one coming. Tried to be mentally ready regardless of the shocking news I took few days back. I gave it my all from lane 9."

Ofili still has a chance of winning a medal when she takes her spot with the rest of her team in the 4x100m relay which will be going down towards the end of the games.

Recall that Favour Ofili was hit the disappointing news earlier in the games when she released that she was not registered for the 100-meter event. She has blamed the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria for the error but had to shift attention to prepare for the 200-meter.

There is no news yet from the parties involved concerning why she was not left of the 100-meter dash.

Here is why Annette Nneka Echikunwoke the silver medalist at the Olympics 2024 hammer throw event left Nigeria to represent the USA.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Annette Nneka Echikunwoke, made history when she became the first athlete to win a medal for the USA in hammer throw after she received a silver medal for her effort in the event.

Annette Nneka Echikunwoke however did not represent the USA from the get-go and at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo Japan as it was revealed that she had been slated to represent Nigeria instead.

Questions as to why Annette won the medal with USA and not Nigeria have been raised and here is why the silver medalist at the Olympics 2024 hammer throw event opted for The States instead of Team Nigeria.

Why did Annette Nneka Echikunwoke leave Nigeria for the USA?

Olympics 2024 hammer throw silver medalist
Annette Nneka Echikunwoke

Annette Nneka Echikunwoke faced a devastating disqualification at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Initially chosen to represent Nigeria, her parent's home country, in the hammer throw, she was disqualified just two days before her event due to administrative errors by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

The AFN failed to submit the required drug testing documentation for Echikunwoke and nine other Nigerian athletes, making them ineligible. This mistake was especially heartbreaking for Echikunwoke as it happened on her birthday, July 29, 2021. She expressed her deep disappointment on social media, highlighting the hard work and sacrifices she had made in preparation for the Olympics.

Despite this setback, Echikunwoke's determination endured. She later switched her allegiance to the United States and made an incredible comeback by winning a silver medal in the hammer throw at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This has raised more questions than answers for the Athletic Federation of Nigeria as a repeat where Favour Ofili was not duly registered for the 100m event at the Olympics 2024 was confirmed.

Questions about the competence of the federation have continued to surface and many believe this could discourage other top athletes from opting for the option to represent the country at future events.

Talented Samuel Ogazi has now equalled Nigeria's 36-year-old record at the Olympics with his latest race in the men's 400m.

In his Olympic debut, Samuel Ogazi has put Nigeria back on the map by qualifying for the men's 400m finals marking the first time in 36 years, since the legendary Innocent Egbunike, that a Nigerian has reached this stage.

The 18-year-old delivered the performance of his life in a highly competitive semifinal, setting a new Personal Best (PB) of 44.41 seconds to secure third place and his spot in the final. This achievement makes Ogazi the first Nigerian 400m runner to reach an Olympic final since Egbunike did so at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Ogazi has shown impressive talent for Nigeria this season, consistently demonstrating his potential as a future star with his rapid progression. He moved to the United States in January on a student-athlete scholarship at the University of Alabama and quickly made his mark on the collegiate outdoor circuit.

He surprised many by winning the NCAA silver medal, and then went on to earn a bronze medal at the African Championships. After that, he competed in a series of professional races in Europe to fine-tune his preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
